Misinformation about the severity of the COVID-19 pandemic

Elmhurst Hospital Center in New York City, where doctors treated a patient who had consumed a bleach mixture after reading about it online.

Although the COVID-19 pandemic has passed for 4 years and has been controlled by countries worldwide, it has not completely disappeared and transformed to adapt to the present. We have taken preventive measures to prevent it, not causing too much damage to the body and the country's economy like 4 years ago. But somewhere in the US, some people still believe in false information about COVID-19 online because doctors give false information, which leads to many different consequences. It creates more pressure on doctors treating patients and raises concerns about expertise and public health.

As of January 18, 2023, the number of deaths caused by COVID-19 coronavirus is 1.1 million people in the United States. And it is worth noting that about 1/3 of those deaths were preventable if public health recommendations such as vaccination and social distancing were followed. However many of them do not believe the recommendations and think that they are not real and are believed to be created for political purposes rather than science.

They have also spread misinformation about vaccines to prevent COVID-19 and about the effectiveness of face masks in preventing the virus. Other unproven claims have been made about topics such as the origins of SARS-CoV-2, government cover-ups, pharmaceutical companies’ profit motives, and other conspiracy theories. Many posts are based on patient anecdotes and data from poor-quality medical journals and exaggerate facts such as permanent damage to the immune system, increased risk of chronic diseases in children, and risk of myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle). All of this has contributed to distrust of vaccines and a refusal to take basic coronavirus precautions.

Although the COVID pandemic is over, its consequences are still there and continuing. It can be said that although there are only a small number of people who do not believe in the recommendations of the state and doctors, causing false information to spread and making it difficult for everyone. But we have overcome and won the pandemic, we need to be united in the future and need to accurately check the information on the network to protect our health and the community.
