Media Synthesize

In recent years, the term “synthetic media” has emerged in common parlance as an umbrella term to describe video, images, text, or voice that are either fully or partially generated by computers. It can be said that wherever we go, stay, or settle, or any place, restaurants, supermarkets, daily news, and weather all involve synthetic media.

For better or worse, synthetic media will have a major impact on our society in the future—and experts predict that, like any new medium, society will adapt to this change. Right now, we all believe that it has already happened. Today, no one doubts that the photos we see in magazines have been Photoshopped, that after we take a picture or do something, everything will be edited to look harmonious, a little too much, to serve different purposes. Even our parents have embraced weird face-swapping apps and Snapchat filters, becoming more critical (and open-minded) about such media.

A photoshopped image
According to a survey, most people are concerned and worried that the future of AI will dominate and make us more and more dependent on it, some people say "I would never read it if I knew it was written by AI," manipulation and sharing of misinformation + fake news, undermining trust in the media but there are also many people who agree and express their opinions that it will help us a lot in promoting the image of businesses, attracting customers, stimulating people's consumption. It helps people work faster and more efficiently and allows people to express their creativity in new, unprecedented ways. It enriches our experiences (websites, games, virtual reality, etc.). Therefore, we need to have our own opinions and carefully consider when starting to search for information online, in the era of strong media development.

  1. I like how you mentioned that social media is so evident today because it is really everywhere and it is really hard to believe what is true and not true. Photoshop is also everywhere and that with the new AI technology makes it hard to see certain things as true
